iCarly meets iObama! The Associated Press reports that first lady
Michelle Obama is going to make an appearanceon an upcoming episode of
iCarlyto promote
"Joining Forces," a campaign to increase awareness and support for military families.
In the episode, which is set to air next January, Carly's two best friends break rules to help Carly have a web chat with her dad -- a colonel serving overseas -- on his birthday. The First Lady discovers their plan and "comes to have a chat with them in the most positive way possible," according to Nickelodeon president Cyma Zarghami.
And so ends the idea of Carly and Sam starting their own iWikiLeaks.
This isn't Michelle Obama's first foray in kids TV. In 2009, she
dropped by Sesame Streetto discuss health eating and growing gardens. But that was probably a piece of carrot cake compared to this.
It's one thing to talk turnips with playful muppets, but will the first lady be able to hold her own with the
I Love Lucy-like antics of
iCarlystars
Miranda Cosgroveand
Jennette McCurdy?
Well, never bet against first ladies. Michelle is as smart, savvy, and camera-friendly as they come. If she can gracefully take fire from conservative pundits, she can hold her own opposite a precocious tween and her smart-aleck sidekick.
Without a doubt, kids will be thrilled to see the first lady on one of their favorite TV shows, but none more so than a couple of
reported iCarly fansnamed
Sashaand
Malia Obama. Watching your own mom on one of your favorite TV shows -- nothing beats that.
